Unabridged Audiobook
I enjoyed this book. My late Mother was from WA, grew up during WW2, and told great stories about the ANZAC soldiers. My Uncle Sandy flew with the RAAF and was bound to his Mates until his death. The narrator perfectly separates the enjoyable Aussie accent (Jack & Reg) from the unbearable Bogan (Teddy). I could visualize the characters, architecture, and the landscape. Great Listen.
I really enjoyed this book and it was fairly clean, with only a handful of swear words. Intriguing and well written, although I felt the ending was abrupt. There is a big build up through the majority of the book of the conflict between two friends wanting the same woman and I felt like the resolution was rather sudden, almost as if the author bored with it and decided to tie it off neatly one day. Otherwise very much enjoyed this story and was very impressed with the author (my first read of hers).
this was a very good book. I did like the change in narrators although I did not finish the authors note at the end. I was kind of shocked that it seemed to just end. I thought for sure there was going to be a little bit more to it.
Interesting book about the people and island of Crete during WWII. Great narration. I enjoyed it very much.
Very interesting I read a lot about World War II and Hitler, but never from the Greek point of view
I was surprised by just how good the book was. I will be looking for other books by this author.
I absolutely loved this book. The narrator switch was great and very fitting. Many mention that this book comes to an abrupt end, while it does, the reader is not left with unanswered questions and loose ends are tied up so I didn't find it off putting. Be sure to listen to the authors after word, it really rounds out the story and provides additional insight into the plot.
A good story but you knew how it was going very quickly. Implausible in some parts.
Entertaining while appreciating the personality of Crete within the WW2 history. Narrator excellent with the mix of language and gender.
This story started off a pinch slow, but every time I listened I was pulled more and more into the story! It was sad, exciting, joyful, and depressing all at the same time. Wonderful book! A drama with a pinch of love story.♡
My first book by this author. Very compelling story based historical events. Appreciated the authors notes at the end that tied together the story.with actual events. If you are into historical fiction this is a good one.
Good book. Appreciated the historical perspective and researched content. The narrators are very good. Worth reading
Book was pretty good. Good narration. Thought it was a little slow at times, hence the 4 stars.
This WWII historical fiction portrays the unusual setting of Greek Isles. The storytelling was excellent and the tale never boring.
I found this book to be informative , passionate, and inspiring. I loved it so much that when it was finished, I listened to it again.
Very interesting, great narration
This will go down as a favourite for me. Historical fiction is my chosen genre and this was woven with a beautiful story with excellent narrators, all 3 of them. Loved learning new things about history and if ever life allows me to I would visit Crete to honour these brave people.
I really enjoyed this book.
WWII in Greece is not a common topic, so it was a revelation to me,
I just felt the author was trying to imitate Ernest Hemingway in A Farewell To Arms. And, it was predictable
Loved everything about this book. Definitely one to re-listen to.
I loved this story and the narrators
