Several years ago I read an unabridged copy of this classical work. I must say, this abridged reading was wonderful.
I loved this book! The characters were interesting and there was some surprising humor. The story and names were complicated, so the reader has to pay attention. Does not follow the movies.
Such an intriguing story. I got a bit confused by so many characters with unique names but it was a fascinating journey into a provocative time in history. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed listening to this classic and the narrator was very good too
I decided to read this book because although I had heard of the title I was completely unfamiliar with the plot. The story started off interesting, but the further into the story I got, the less I liked it. The author (as is typical of this time period) gets sidetracked with little side plots and unrelated stories from minor characters). This particular version was abridged, but it seemed to drag on and on despite being shorter than the original story. I have never given up on a novel without finishing, but I stopped after only making it through about 1/3 of this book.
The narrator wasn't bad but he wasn't great either. I was impressed with his pronunciation of the difficult French names, but overall his narration was a little flat.
An excellent classic!
Good book and narrator but poor audio quality.
I absolutely loved the story and narrators way of reading it!
