The Colorado Kid

This story was a gem, although it is neither suspenseful nor a mystery (and the cover art has NO connection to the story). It is a character study of a group of people in a small Maine town who discover the corpse of a stranger on the beach. It is also a study in what people expect to get in a story, and how real-life does not always occur in a manner that can be fit neatly into those expectations.

Boring..... The most boring book about a mystery I have ever heard. Why did he feel compelled to write this??? Pass on this book..

A truely pointless story. Yes I realize that is the point but still... And how in the world do you base a TV series on this story?

Enjoyed the narrative, good job on character creation, but the story was rather pointless, not build up, no tension. Your left with the feeling of....that's it????

Book is good so far not a lot like tv series though

Been a fan of most of kings audio books. But this was just boring. There's a not so good television show i saw on sci fi channel called Haven, that says it is based on this book. I cant even see where there is a resemblance.

Once you get around the Maine accents and understand what is being read, the book is interesting. However, it really didn't have a point of any kind.

As a long time Stephen King fan, I have to say I was disappointed. I realize he likes to try things out on his readers but this one failed. When I found out he had written a mystery, I couldn't wait to try it out. Maybe he's just finally run out of ideas.

I've never been so bored by an audio book. The ending was disappointing and Boring. Glad to get it over with.

My time could have been better spent watching a fire hydrant rust while eating raw toast.

I am a die hard Stephen King fan. I always thought that if he wrote a check I would read it....with enthusiasm. This one was unbearable! VERY anti-climactic, good thing it was only 4 CDs. I kept waiting for it to get better...it did not.

I assume there's another Stephen King who wrote this pointless exercise in tedium. For there's no way the Stephen King who wrote The Stand, The Shining and Carrie could have written this bit of hack work. That it's bad goes without saying. The question is: Why was it written? Did Stephen King need the money? Or was it written as a practical joke? (My fans will read anything I write. So here's the literary equivalent of a shopping list.) The mystery of this mystery is why it exists...

A simple tale with no real conclusion. Seems more and more of Stephen Kings's stories are writtin with this intent. As one of the characters states, if you are looking for a mystery with all the loose ends neatly wrapped up - this is not a story for you. But if your are in the mood for a good story, with likable characters and a well written plot - you'll love The Colorado Kid. Set in a small, coastal town in the NE US, King really captures the sound and feel of that area.

A LITTLE SLOW IN THE BEGINNING BUT IT WAS A GOOD READ. BY THE END YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW THE MYSTERY.

The reader was GREAT! And King's ability to accecpt and pass along that sometimes there are no answers, no end, is so refreshing. My mind has been challenged and it feels good! Thanks, Steve!

This was an interesting little spin, but an unsolved mystery. Not the best. It was short by SK terms, but no really all that interesting.

Not one of Stephen Kings best efforts. I couldn't get past the first CD, too boring. I would not recommend it.

I'm an avid Stephen King reader but this one just didn't hold my interest like most of his other work. It was an interesting premise but he could have taken it a lot further.

While certainly not your typical Stephen King, it was an entertaining story. I must say the Jeffrey DeMunn did a fantastic job reading, he really brought the characters to life.

I am one of Stephen King's biggest fsns (no pun) but this book was hard to get through. I love the narrarators New England accent, however the story was just too slow and unexciting. Everytime I felt the kicker was coming, the story just dragged on. I will continue to read or listen I should say to Stephen King, but if you are looking for an impelling story, you should skip this one.

The worst Stephen King book I have ever read or listened to. What was he thinking? Totally boring and pointless.

This was the worst Stephen King book that I have ever read, and I am a huge fan. It was very slow moving, boring and had none of the suspense and intricate plots that you read S.K. for...don't bother.

King proves yet again that storytelling just comes naturally to him. The detail is just remarkable. If you only like King for his horror or fantsy this may not be the story for you. but if you like King's writing style and character development skills You will enjoy this one. I really believe this is a wonderful story for people who enjoy writing stories themselves. A great lesson on story plot delelopment. Keep going KING!!!!!

I think Stephen King was trying to experiment with a different genre than his usual work, but in this case it didn't work. It seems he took the experiment a little too far. He mentions in the beginning that there is no ending to this story, and he is telling the truth. This might work if the body of the story were more interesting. In this case the body of the story was dull, with or without an ending. You have a student newspaper writer on a work study program trying to learn about the mysterious death of an unknown man from the two ancient newspaper men she is working for. They proceed to tell her that this is a very unsatisfying story you probably don't want to hear because the mystery is really never solved. They were right. Not just because the mystery is never solved, but because the mystery itself is not that interesting. She should have just told them not to bother and the book could have ended right there. You WILL be dissapointed in this book.

Although I didn't dislike the book, it was very un-Stephen King. I had a hard time staying awake. Could have been the narrators voice, could have been the warm sun, was likely the boring subject matter. I wouldn't recommend if your looking for a typical King book.

Wow. Stephen King and not overly scary!!!! This is terrific. A great story to keep you in suspense, yet without being scared out of your mind. Hard to put down.

Easy listening story. The kind that doesn't require any thought. But a good story.

Well written but no ending. if you read the description of the book thats all you need to know because there is no conclusion!!!

Not one of my favorite King books, and I'm a longtime fan. The reader's accent was HORRIBLE and distracting. The story did not grab my attention whatsoever. I couldn't wait for it to end.

too much ado about nothing very boring. I expected more out of Stephen King this must have been one of his earlier writings.

As a huge Stephen King fan I was not let down by this book. Although the narrator can be a little hard to understand when doing the "voices" of the old men the story is excellent overall. I couldn't wait to get back in my car to keep listening. A very enjoyable "read" overall.

This review was less than stellar. The voice was awful. It sounded like an 80 year old man. Not very easy to follow either. Abridged version plops you in the middle of the story without having a clue as to what is going on.
