Unabridged Audiobook
Love the book series, cant stop listening.
This series just keeps on delivering! I continue loving the books for the intricate scientific detail and extrapolation of how science and technology might realistically look in a few centuries though best of all is the woven narrative that is not a rehash of anything that has come before in the series or perhaps even in science fiction (that I’ve read). Truly excellent writing and storytelling This book has it all. Morally bankrupt villains, a planet that defies belief and a railgun round in all the right places! Really enjoyed every aspect of this book. Can’t wait for #5 now!
I bought this book after watching the three seasons of The Expanse. I felt it was an interesting book, big change from the series, the whole book, expect the start and end, playing out on the planet Ilus, and in orbit. It seemed like a slow book for the first half, but it picks up the pace in the second half, namely Havelocks one-man fight against his former militia which had me laughing quite a bit with the contrast of gunho attitude versus actual experience. It touches on an unfortunate part, the vagueness of the alien technology which I wished the series explored more, and introduces an important, even more foreign alien anomaly that plays a huge role in the later books. Some of the new characters are interesting, and alot of people seemed to have a problem with the main antagonist from what I recall, but you have to remember, he’s a survivalist in space, he’s supposed to be an incomprehensible d***. I enjoyed this book overall, actually one of my favorites of the series.
Great story and the reader did a fantastic job with the material. I want more.
The continuity of the books in the series is good. I appreciate characters that keep their characters.
This is the third I've listened to in this audiobook series with the same narrator (I read the first book). I think he does a great job and It's well produced. The narration has grown on me and I have no problems listening for a couple of hours. Personally, I think the series has got weaker as it goes on (up to this point) and suffers from some mediocre writing. It seems like they're stretched for ideas slightly, and the story and new characters are very reminiscent of ones that came before, especially the previous book. But if you're here you already like the series. It's a fun, casual listen. I'll be downloading the next one.
