Summary
In a universe where corruption and deception rule all aspects of life, sparks of rebellion threaten to ignite in this story of dark secrets and irresistible chemistry.

Born of Silence

As the Resistance leader, Zarya Starska's only goal is to topple the government that destroyed her entire family and left her penniless. Her biggest asset is a mysterious man known only as Kere.

But Kere has a dark secret. Born into a world that is as privileged as it is corrupt, his real name is Darling Cruel—and he is heir to the government Zarya wants to overthrow. No one has ever seen the real man behind the legend. No one except Zarya. But when she allows a weapon he designed to be used against his beloved sister, all bets are off.

Betrayed by the Resistance, Darling's goal is not only to reign, but to kill every Resistance member he can find. Zarya must stop Darling's reign of terror, but can she reach past his insanity to restore the hero who once fought by her side?

I enjoyed this story. It was a little on the overly gruesome side as the writer seemed to be wanting it to compete (and win) with the horrors that the other characters of the series faced. Overall, this story is what you would expect from a Kenyon novel.

I think this is the best of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books and I've read them all. I also find the narration to be the best of any book I've heard. Thank you, it made this book a delectable and amazing story!

This book is an extravagant, luxurious, suspenseful feast of a book. Its long. 19 hours. But its catharctic qualities, the deep deep character building, the very realistic rollarcoaster of relationships across planets and cultures was lush, and utterly satisfying. Under the drama are life lessons of the male protagonist's father's 20 rules that made me stop stirring the risotto and burn it while he recited it in the last quarter of the bbook. "Shoot", I thought, "why the heck didn't someone tell ME that when I was a kid?" For those who work to forget trauma in the past, this book is a glass-bottom boat to see how various characters deal. Fans of Kenyon's Dark Hunter series will find some similar themes to her book and character Acheron of the Dark Hunters Series. The author loves to explore redemption of the deepest darkest of human experiences, and the resilience or coping strategies of the best in dealing with horrible traumas. There is a long solid, well-developed plot that the books length allows the reader to feel very drawn into as it unfolds, and the relationships issues are woven throughout. There are a couple weaknesses in the plot, particularly with the protagonist's inability to break free of the evil uncle chains, yet develops the characteristics and skills of a league assassin(?). For those who have read the first couple of books in this series, the prominent central return of Sin and Nykyrian (sp) was wonderful, familiar, and like visiting with old friends. The witty repartee was fun and comforting. It should be noted that the author actually wrote those earlier books in this series when she was a kid--something of child novelist prodigy? But you don't need to have read those to love this book. It stands alone wonderfully. Holter Graham's narration was beautifully secondary to the story. He does a decent job with female voice. I wish the rating system allowed halves. I am giving this a 4 star since I rarely give 5, but I'd give it a 4.5 if I could. Gifted author. Great performance. Clone Mr Graham's performance. A bad performance can kill great book, and this narrator/actor does a very good job of bringing this book to life.
