Unabridged Audiobook
This is the most amazing book! It is written flawlessly and the narration adds a whole new feel to the story! I have listened to this countless times and it never gets old! A
I loved this book. I am not a big fan of revisionist history but this is different. It is adding to our understanding of the “enemy” in those days. This book is adolescent at times, even elementary, but that abandonment of conventions is brilliant. A book should be delivered to the reader in a manner that opens there mind without requiring a PhD to catch up.
this is my favorite book I have the actual book itself!!
I loved the book. The narrator was great!
Enjoyed every moment of this book. The author was able to take us into the time Era in delicious detail and childhood innocence.
I love the narrator’s voice
A great book with the right mix of humor and heartbreak. The narrator was perfect!
This is the BEST BOOK I ever read/heard. I laughed and I cried. I couldn't put it down.
Outstanding narration! Alan brought the book to life. Everyone should read/listen to this book.
It was predictable, but still a good story.
An absolute MUST READ!
Incredible book, incredible telling. Definitely a classic
I loved this book from start to finish. It gives a good look at WWII from German’s point of view.
Great narrator! I was worried because there were a couple of narrators to choose from so I chose at random, choose this one! His german accent is fantastic and the voices he uses for each character help me identify more with each character, usually I lose who is who pretty easily. The book is also fantastic, incredibly powerful story and well written. The characters feel real and the writing is unique, it pulls you in visually incredibly well.
Heart breakingly beautiful. Loved every chapter.
Loved loved loved this book! Patti d
This is hands down my favorite book ever. A side from Harry Potter this is the only book I have a read/ listened to several times over.
Great book loved listening whenever I can.
Interesting book, I didn’t love it but didn’t dislike it. Certainly kept me interested
Offers a different perspective on the Germany of the Second World War through the eyes of a young German girl. Definitely worth your time.
Thoroughly enjoyed The Book Thief! Also enjoyed the narration very much. Told from an interesting point of view, I found the book to be a well written beautiful story. It is full of color and offers an important perspective on WWII Germany. Would recommend to teens and adults alike. Words have power and the words in this book may just plant a seed of kindness!
This book was spectacular! I loved every second. The narration is also amazing.

Emotions
It's an good book but I feel like the narrator isn't very expressive and could get boring at times but is still a good book to listen to.
I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this book. It took me a bit to get into ... then I did. Excellent writing! Excellent narration! Terrific story! I felt as if I were there as the story unfolded. A different view of Germany during WWII. Felt emotional at the end. Will "read" again.
Just amazing, and so compelling!
Very intriguing. My children read it and they loved it!
The book was great. I enjoyed the narrator until he tried doing people's voices.
I had read the book but in a hurry of course. And the audio actually helped me catch a lot of details that I had missed. I completely enjoy it.
One of the best books I've ever read, and I couldn't have found it at a more appropriate time.
Really liked this book.
I actually downloaded this book for my son as to follow along with in his book. He loves it. I think this may be my next read.
I had to get nearly halfway through before it finally got my interest. It is worth reading, though. The narrator is absolutely perfect for the role with his accent and voices. I often forgot my own surroundings and found myself on Himmel St with Liesel and Rudy.
I love this book and highly recommend it. The choice of narrator was spot on!
Wonderful book with excellent narration. It was assigned for a class and now I understand why
Excellent narration - was transported to Germany by the narrator
Great story. Read for a book club, and very happy for it. Enjoyed the story and appreciated the narrator.
Super good!!!!and my son love this book soooooo much!
The book is wonderful, and beautifully narrated. It is a book about humane behavior, about love, about the tough situation of the german citizens during the war, the unavoidable Hitler youth, and people risking their life to save another person. Please do not watch the movie, and if you did know that it is very different from this wonderful book. It is hard to capture thoughts, emotions and relationships in a movie, but in a book a talented author can do the work. And Markus Zusak is doing it wonderfully.
The narrator read this book with such life and enthusiasm and the book was much more entertaining
This audio recording made the story so much more real than reading the book which I tried. The role of the narrator ws hard to figure but listen to it made it so much better. Also, you hear the prouncination of the German words rather then just glossing over them in the book
I enjoyed this book. I thought the narration was very nice.
A wonderful story. The narrator has the voice of a story teller. He spins his web and gently sucks you in to the story. You totally forget that you are listening to a book on tape...you feel his presence and, like a child, are transported to another world. Wonderful!!!
Excellent book which the narrator masterfully brought to life.
An excellent book!! I've listened to many, many books and this narrator is superior by far!
It was ok ,but the narrator made me actually imagine it.
One of the most incredible books and narrators I have ever experienced. Must read.
Incredible story teller and character development. I wanted to hear more about liesle and max after the end of the war.
Amazing book and narrator! I stayed up way to late many night listening because I could decide for a good place to stop.
A sublime book read by a master narrator. What a terribly high bar they both set!
The narrator was spectacular. This was one of my first audiobooks and I was spoiled by the talent of narration.
Quite possibly the best book I've ever had the privilege to listen to.
This book is fantastic. It is probably my favorite book ever.
I love this book and I recommend to everyone I know. I really grew attached to the characters.
Excellent book. I love how the author puts words together like a painting! I was doubtful at first when the story and style were introduced, but as the story progressed I was hooked.
I really enjoyed reading this book. What an incredible story and perspective
It was very slow. I think the narrator was part of the problem. His voice was boring. I just couldn't listen any more.
This was the most beautiful book I have ever listened to. Don't miss it.
This is how WW2 effected the common folks of a small town in Germany....who were damned to poverty and death by the most evil person of the last century. The narrator is "death" and he describes in detail the average and mundane life of these people; most of whom hated Hitler like the rest of the civilized world.
This was the most amazing and interesting book that I have listened to. The reader was excellent and the story line was so good and I would certainly recommend it to anyone interested in WWII and the problems of a family and their neighbors and how they coped day to day.
I just finished listening to The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak for the second time. It is a beautifully written story of an 11-13 year old girl coming of age in Nazi Germany, ~1939 - 1942. Reminiscent of To Kill A Mockingbird, it exposes humanity at its worst and at its best. One of my all-time favorite books--loved it!
I loved this audiobook. I have listened to dozens of stories and readers, but this one really held my attention. The narrator was great, and the actual book was amazing. I recommended The Book Thief to all my friends, but with the caveat that I listened to it - maybe only the audiobook is that riveting!
When I first heard the voice of Death as the narrator, I must say I was a liitle taken aback. As the tale unfolds, however, the distinct perspective of Death is what makes this book great! I listen to my books while commuting to work and this is the first time I brought CD's home to finish before starting a new one in the AM. Definitley on my 10 Best List!
It was the best of books, it was the worst of books. Well written, great characters, unique and refreshing point of view of the narrator (not reader) should have made this a easy five star rating. However, the ending (without giving it way) left me unfulfilled, though I suppose the ending was what it needed to be for this book. So if you want a great literary work that gives you an appreciating for a great author, rent it. If you want to feel good at the end, move on to the next book.
This book got off ot a slow start, but once i got into it, it was great.
Creative and with a unique perspective, The Book Thief is an absorbing tale of a young girl in Germany just before and during WWII. The author speaks with compassion and wisdom about the Germans and the Jews who were trapped in the Nazi madness.
This story quickly moved to my "Top 5 EVER" books. Beautiful story, a very different point of view of the era, so many rich relationships. I adored this book. As "anonymous" above did, I had to drive in silence for a few trips to/from work, and starting the next book was difficult; I didn't want to let "Thief" go.
This book was an unexpected delight recommended by a friend. A story of a brave girl in pre-world war II Germany. A wonderful story written with beautiful words.
Beautiful and moving. It's a story that will haunt you, but not necessarily in a bad way. I have a very long commute and once I finished this book, rather than putting in the next one, I just drove in silence for a few days to allow myself an opportunity to continue appreciating this book, and to continue absorbing it. Highly recommend!
This book was terrific. I am not a history buff at all but so enjoyed this saga about natzi Germany. It was brilliantly written. I could not put it down.
What a wonderful book!!!! I wished that it just kept going.
I absolutely loved this story. It is very rich and involved, the characters are wonderful and the narrator is excellent. After I finished all 13 CDs I wish I had someone else to give it to so they could listen to it too. It is very good!
