Unabridged Audiobook
The book was a little slow in the beginning and I almost quit it because I just couldn’t get into it. But with George doing the narration and my perseverance I pushed through the first few chapters and then couldn’t stop listening. It takes a minute to figure out how the book is presented but so worth it once you do. So, overall I feel this im was a great book. Loved the premise and what it leads you to believe and how it caused me to think. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the ending - it just ended. I guess you’ll come up with your own conclusions, which isn’t always a bad thing, but took me by surprise when I heard the words, “The end.” I remember thinking to myself - that’s it? Bummer. Still, you won’t be disappointed by selecting this book. And George Guidall always makes an audio book that much better!
I was super impressed with this book. I have never read a Turtledove novel before but I'll be checking out the rest of his books. As always George Guidall's narration was amazing.
I have read many a Harry Turtledove alternate history. This one was, by far, the most unsettling. To my mind, this is what made it so good. The narrator,George Guidall, was excellent!
I liked it the first time I listen. I loved it the second time and really live the story and appreciates each character even more. Then there was the reality of the story. Seems very plausible and logical.
A slow moving novel. I lost interest after chapter 10ish. I gave up a few chapters later. Sad because I live to read.
Even a spectacular narrator like Guidall can’t salvage this preachy, redundant, and colossally boring novel. I rarely leave a book, or a movie for that matter, unfinished — if you can get through half this read you beat me.
