Unabridged Audiobook
I tried so hard to finish this book. It just dragged on and kept saying the same thing over and over. I couldn’t take it.
I listened to almost 3 hours until I found the main character just too unbearable to continue. Narrator was very good though.
The story was very slow and predictable. Unfortunately, not a favourite read.
I had to think about this a little bit before I wrote the review. On the surface, I originally thought, ‘meh – I didn’t care for this book’. But really, I streamed it even when I only had a few minutes of uninterrupted brain time to spare! So that must mean I WAS engrossed in it – in fact, I absolutely was. I can see why other reviewers found the main character unbearable. Annie is not the least bit likable – she’s one of those people who is exasperatingly over-eager “to help” (I found myself clinching my fists just thinking about it), whether you want her to, or not. Initially I wondered why, WHY, W H Y all the senseless little lies?! But it turns out, lying is just inextricably tangled at the very core of her existence. Socially awkward leech, isolated, everything she says comes out excruciatingly wrong. On the flip side – survivor of a horrific tragedy, simple, and not intentionally trying to cause harm. I found this book interesting in it’s exploration of the post-traumatic effects of tragedy on our lives many years beyond the event. I’ll be reflecting on this story for a long time, making sure I behave in ways to ensure I’m no one’s Annie!
Overall an alright book, it could get a bit redundant and I definitely was not rooting for Annie.
A lot of repeating.... A LOT. I thought it was going to get "good" or have a major plot twist. I was sadly mistaken. I won't do any more of her books.
Timestamp: 11:52 Track 15"Annie let out the breath she didn't realise she'd been holding.". And there you have it, my friends. I knew that line was coming in this book. It's alright. Annie is dreadfully awful. It reminds me of Crime and Punishment a bit. Just.. a wine mom version
This book if nothing else was a good lesson in people who feel invisible, who are lonely and may be delusional. It made me feel i should be more aware of people who may feel excluded.
I listened for awhile but just couldn’t get into it. Was confusing and lack luster. Never finished.
What a shame. Story is slapped together, so many loose ends at the end, I was in doubt the books was really done.
interesting story and great narrator, but some parts of the book really dragged and seemed redundant making it much longer than it probably needed to be.
Brilliantly written from an interesting perspective and well narratored too
Boring. Couldn't even finish thus story. I only chose it because it was a free VIP selection. Even so, it was a waste of a free book.
Enjoyable book
