Summary
A new Alien novel perfect for fans of Alien: Romulus, now available on Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Fandango at Home

After narrowly escaping a Xenomorph attack and crash landing on the wrong planet, former military man Chris Temple just wants a peaceful life with his daughters. He just needs to deal with the brewing civil war and a Xenomorph on the loose.

War will always find a man like you.

This Alien story begins where most end: with a xenomorph loose on a damaged spaceship hurtling through space. Once a highly decorated marine, Chris Temple, a recently widowed single father to two young daughters, Jane, 11, and Emma, 8, is onboard. Despite his particular set of skills, Chris doesn’t get involved in the fight with the alien, instead focusing on keeping his children safe as the ship comes in for a crash landing.

The family land safely on an idyllic outpost planet, where Chris is told that the ship has been destroyed beyond recognition and nothing could have survived the crash. That’s only the first lie. Chris and his daughters love their new life, but something doesn’t feel right. Chris is a paranoid type, but just because he’s paranoid, doesn’t mean he’s wrong.

There are nasty surprises in store as Chris investigates the web of lies and conspiracies. After leaving a ruined Earth, it seems Chris and his daughters have crash-landed on a planet on the verge of all-out civil war. Chris will have to call on the battle skills he never wanted to use again in order to protect his daughters, deal with violence-hungry marines, and battle the xenomorph that’s killing people regardless of which side of the civil war they’re on.

This was a great listen. The narrator is a little flat, but the story carried the experience, and I wanted too badly to know what happened next even to bother being bothered by the narration. I look for Sci-Fi, Horror, and Fantasy by authors I've never heard of specifically to find little gems like this one. It's got a good formula and balance between action and peaceful life, and nothing happened in the book that didn't feel forced in, it all felt like it belonged in the world created.

I really enjoyed this one. There's good character development, and, for the most part, the story moves well. The author continues developing the theme of human - android interactions with an interesting twist. Alien: Uncivil War is a worthy addition to the Alien franchise. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the narration is a little flat, but the narrator is at his best when using different voices for each character -- truly a remarkable job. I rate both the author and narrator 4.5, which I'm rounding up to 5 stars here.

The writing is wretched, about as subtle as the stupid title (UN-civil? Get it?) ... couldn't make it 20 minutes into this audiobook. Seriously, here're a couple examples of the prose in the first few pages: "The man's arms were outstretched as if in religious ecstasy, but there was nothing religious or ecstatic about the look on his face." "At first, it looked like some kind of black weapon had impaled him, but the end of it was swaying gently, like a tree branch in the wind ... Or a tail." And could we PLEASE do an Alien book without turning it into Ripley fanfic? Lord. I'm all for a good Alien(s) tie-in story - I loved 'Phalanx' and 'Cold Forge' -- but it was obvious early on this isn't one of those. Time's better spent reading something skillful and new.

The main character is absolutely extraordinary. The story I felt got a little boring, towards the end as they were focusing on many other characters. But overall it was very enjoyable
