Summary
Sam Becker loves—or, okay, likes—his job. Sure, managing a bed-and-bath retailer isn't exactly glamorous, but it's good work, and he gets on well with the band of misfits who keep the store running. He could see himself being content here for the long haul. Too bad, then, that the owner is an infuriating git. Jonathan Forest should never have hired Sam. It was a sentimental decision, and Jonathan didn't get where he is by following his heart. Determined to set things right, Jonathan orders Sam down to London for a difficult talk…only for a panicking Sam to trip, bump his head, and maybe accidentally imply he doesn't remember anything? Faking amnesia seemed like a good idea when Sam was afraid he was getting sacked, but now he has to deal with the reality of Jonathan's guilt—as well as the unsettling fact that his surly boss might have a softer side to him. There's an unexpected freedom in getting a second shot at a first impression…but as Sam and Jonathan grow closer, can Sam really bring himself to tell the truth, or will their future be built entirely on one impulsive lie?

I listened until about halfway then left it for a few days then skipped forward to the end, the ending was exactly as you would have imagined, it certainly took a long time getting there with nothing much happening.

I love Alexis Hall's romantic comedies. They are quite predictable and definitely not the high literature of our generation, but they are witty, funny and heartwarming. They make me laugh and cry and feel good. The narrator for this is excellent, he really conveys the different characters voices. Overall, I enjoyed this a lot. If you like romantic comedies, you will absolutely love this one.

Another wellwritten and engaging novel by this author (the 4th that I've listened to). Thoroughly enjoyable. Some laugh out loud moments. The emotional parts were nicely done as well. The characters are people I'd like to meet. This writing lends itself perfectly to an audio book format and that is made even more striking by the narrator, who is superb. His accents add to the enjoyment for me( a US listerner). It was fun to try to decipher some of the local slang. [As I have said in previous reviews, i could do without the profanity, but was able to"handle" it for the sake of authenticity] Ready for Alexis Hill's next.

Gobsmacked by how this book was like the perfect cuppa. Sweet but not too sickly syrupy, Very funny but not too campy, Sad but not too morose, Romantic but realistic. The narrator was perfection for this book, Watt has been a narrator for one other book I’ve listened to, but he elevates this performance to almost a stage type of quality. I could listen to him for days. I’ve never read/listened to Alexis Hall and now I’m a fan gurl 4EVA. Thank the goddess that Hall is sooooo prolific

I picked this book as the reviews were positive, mentioning how funny the book is. Unfortunately it fell flat for me. The odd saying was amusing but other than that it I found it ridiculous, repetitive and uneventful. The narrator done a great job.

The narrator truly makes the story come to life with his expressive voice, he gives each character their own funny and witty personality through it. For the plot itself, it’s a cute love story that starts slow, but builds into a wonderful tale! I really enjoyed the character development and the humor in it. It definitely left a smile on my face with the ending ◡̈

Only moderately witty. Certainly no laugh aloud, just the very occasional small smile. Far too long and unnecessary with weak ending. The narrator was proficient although the relentless Liverpudlian was very ugly to have to endure.
